The Mike and Bertye Mountain Music Duo, aka. THE DUO, play an exciting and HOT blend of original and contemporary bluegrass, folk, and classic country!
The DUO is a dynamic flatpicking guitar and bass duo that brings a fresh, high energy twist to the rich tradition of bluegrass music.
Their concerts are both a tribute to the masters of flatpicking guitar, including original arrangements (and sometimes note for note breaks from the original recordings) of Clarance White, Tony Rice, Doc Watson, Norman Blake, and the guitarists that helped to define the genre, and original songs and arrangements in the bluegrass flatpicking style.
MIKE
On acoustic guitar in the flatpicking style, Mike was co-founder of award winning Colorado based bands Heartland and The Bertye Maddux Band
Mike contributes lead and harmony vocals, humor, and lead and rhythm guitar.
A 1995 Winfield, Kansas, National Flatpicking Championship trophy winner, his legacy extends beyond the stage, marked by contributions as a columnist and recording artist for Flatpicking Guitar Magazine, where he shared insight with a global community of guitar enthusiasts with his featured column Mastering the Fingerboard.
His flatpicking guitar workshops have been featured at festivals around the United States. With each issue of the magazine, Mike recorded a CD with the lessons and songs that he created, leading to an impressive discography of over 80 CDs including numerous original instrumentals.
BERTYE
Her story includes co-founder of The Bertye Maddux Band with concerts across the US and an outstanding CD Little Country Schoolhouse.
Bertye is a talented singer, songwriter, (she wrote nearly all of the songs on both the Ol' Banjo CD and the Little Country Schoolhouse CD), and is an outstanding bassist.
She is known for composing songs like Blue Dixie Dreamer, featured by the Chapmans on their Notes From Home CD, and Colorado Clay, from the Bertye Maddux Band Little Country Schoolhouse recording featured on Nashville Public Radio.
Her insight into songwriting has been featured at workshops and festivals around the country.
